FHS is selling items to benefit the Papillon Organization in Haiti. This organization sells the work of local artisans to create orphan prevention through job creation. Please see an FHS member through October 23 to purchase a variety of handmade jewelry, ornaments and home goods.
The students traveling to France this March are selling Butter Braids through Friday, October 18. The fundraiser includes Butter Braids, Cookies and Pizza. See Madame Schrader in room 117 to purchase
French Club will meet TODAY, October 17 in room 117 after school to watch the film "Ascension" You must be a French Club member to attend. The cost is $10 for the year See Madame Schrader or Madame Navarette to sign up.
Asian American Association will have a discussion on a current event relating to the Asian community at our next meeting. We will meet on Wednesday, October 23rd in room 103 at 3:45pm. Snacks will be provided. Please contact Miss Long with any questions.
Interact Club’s annual 5k is going to be on November 16 this year. All of the money we raise will be going to Salt and Light, an organization committed to alleviating poverty with dignity. All of the details are in the attached registration form. We hope to see you there!
Peer Mediation is problem solving by students with students. It is a process by which two students involved in a conflict meet in a private, safe and confidential setting to work out problems with the assistance of two trained student mediators. If you are interested in being a peer mediator, we will meet in the Library Lecture Hall on Tuesday, October 22nd during your lunch/advisory periods (4th, 5th and 6th). Please grab your lunch first, then come to the Library Lecture Hall to participate. Contact Mrs. Fenner for any questions or concerns.
Today (October 17th) Student Council will host their fall semester blood drive. You must be at least 16 years old to donate. If you would like to donate, please see Ms. Pennock in room 208 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a time.

UIUC Women in Computer Science, ChicTech:
This is a yearly retreat for high school girls to give them exposure to the field of Computer Science. ChicTech is an overnight weekend program with activities including tech workshops, a panel for the students, and a talk from ground-breaking professor Dr. Sarita Adve. The goal is to show the attendees that computer science can be a place where they can thrive - no prior experience needed.
This event is for students from all backgrounds, especially those who have never taken a computer science class before. This retreat is free of cost except for transportation to and from the University of Illinois. Applications are open right now and will close on October 18th.

"A Day in the Life of a UIUC Army ROTC Cadet"
- On Thursday, October 24th (6AM - 5PM), students are invited to spend a "Day in the Life of an Army ROTC Cadet" at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign by shadowing a current Cadet!
- A students day will include: 1) Participate in morning Army Physical Training, 2) Attend University & Military Science classes with a Cadet Mentor, 3) Participate in the Weekly Military Science Lab, 4) Opportunities to talk with current adets in the Army ROTC Battalion, and 5) Obtain some cool SWAG!
Dance team competition season and basketball kicks off on October 28th. During competition season, the team take field-trips, participates in tumbling training, travels to competitions throughout Central Illinois, and hosts an overnight sleepover banquet. Auditions will be held on Friday November 1st from 5pm - 7pm and Saturday November 2nd from 5-7 pm in Combs Gym. You must register for dance online prior to auditions at maroonathletics.com.
The wrestling team is hosting open gym workout in the Combes Gym Stage area from 3:40 pm to 5:15 pm on Thursday, October 17th. Anyone interested in working out prior to the wrestling season that isn’t participating in fall sports may meet there for a workout. In addition, the wrestling team will be looking for students that would be interested in being a statistician or a manager for the upcoming season. If you are interested, please meet coach Merle in the Combes gym stage area at the same time. If you have any questions or need information on this year’s sign-up or scheduling, contact Coach Merle or Coach Robb at the open gym.
