Parent reminder: 5Essentials survey deadline approaching

Students, parents and teachers across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois State Board of Education’s eighth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to
generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school.

Reduced bus service for Thurs., Feb. 6, 2020

The Champaign Unit 4 School District will have reduced bus services for Thurs., Feb. 6, 2020.

There will be no yellow school buses operating morning or afternoon for elementary or secondary students living in the areas listed immediately below.

No Bus Service Area:

Hartwell & Hartwell (by U of I golf course) Laurel Park Place

School to resume as normal at Central High School on Wed., Feb. 5

Repairs to the water leak at Central High School have been completed and heat has been restored to the entire building. 
School will resume as normal tomorrow, Wed., Feb. 5.

NO SCHOOL for Champaign Central H.S. Students on Tuesday, Feb. 4

There will be NO SCHOOL for Champaign Central High School students on Tuesday, Feb. 4 due to ongoing repair of a water leak that affects the building's heating. Staff will report to Central and will work in the heated half of the building.  Additional information will be provided as the process progresses.

The safety and well-being of our students remain a top priority for the District. Part of keeping our students safe involves holding safety drills throughout the school year so our students will be prepared in the event an emergency occurs.

New state legislation (Public Act 100-0996) mandates that students present at school participate in one active shooter drill each year.

New Address for South Side Elementary

High school teams qualify for IHSA Team Academic Achievement Award

After first semster grades have been calculated, several high school teams have qualified for the IHSA Team Academic Achievement Award. The award recognizes varsity teams that maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher throughout their respective seasons. The program is designed to reward teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well.

Moving forward after decision not to switch Garden HIlls and IPA campuses

After input from various stakeholders and two community listening sessions, the discussions surrounding switching students/staff of Garden Hills and International Prep Academy have been discontinued.

Families with incoming kindergarten students residing in the Champaign Unit 4 School District may register for the 2020-21 school year and rank their elementary school preference as part of the Schools of Choice process. The registration period is underway and continues through March. All applications received during the registration period, regardless of date submitted, will be processed equally.

South Side Open House for new addition

The Champaign Unit 4 School District is excited to provide families, neighbors and community members the opportunity to see the new building addition at South Side Elementary during an open house on Tues., Jan. 21 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

South Side staff, District staff and members of the project team will give tours of the new space and answer questions. Parking is available off of New St., east of the new addition and south of the Mellon Building. You should enter through the new east main entrance. 

Message from Superintendent Dr. Susan Zola

Based on feedback from various stakeholders over the last several weeks, Superintendent Dr. Susan Zola has suggested to the Board of Education that the District discontinue conversations focused on switching students/staff of both Garden Hills and IPA.

After listening to community and staff input, Dr. Zola is recommending that the District focus on each school, at the current location, in addressing campus needs over the next several months. 

CU One-to-One Mentoring Program celebrates National Mentoring Month throughout January

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The C-U One-to-One Mentoring Program will celebrate National Mentoring Month throughout January. Over 600 community-based adults in the Champaign-Urbana area serve as One to One Mentors. Of that figure, 400 mentors serve Champaign Unit 4 Schools.

School Resumes as Usual at Dr. Howard on Thursday, Dec. 19

The boiler at Dr. Howard is working correctly after Wednesday's repair. School will resume at Dr. Howard on Thursday, Dec. 19, following the normal schedule.

We appreciate the understanding and flexibility of Dr. Howard families, students, and staff in adjusting to the schedule over the past two days. We also extend a thank you to Stratton for opening their doors to accommodate our needs.
